Kicking Against the Pricks

When the Pharisee Saul was traveling the road to Damascus, fulfilling his commission to pursue, prosecute and execute the heretical followers of Christ,
Jesus appeared to him and said: “Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? It is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.”

An ox goad, or prick, is a stick with a pointed piece of iron on its tip used to prod oxen to move in the direction the driver wanted them to go. Sometimes
the animal would rebel by kicking out at the goad, resulting in the prick being driven painfully deeper into its flesh. The more an ox rebelled, the more it suffered.
Thus, Jesus’ words to Saul on the road to Damascus: “It is hard for thee to kick against the pricks,” is a metaphor for the pain and futility that is felt by the masses
when they do not submit and subjugate themselves to the authority which seeks to control them.

As we approach the second decade of the twenty first century, we find ourselves fully immersed in the Information Age. Ubiquitous digital gadgetry has, for better or worse, brought the universe to our fingertips in a swirling sea of electromagnetic fog. The Digital Revolution has also ushered in a battle of Information Warfare whereby competing trusted authorities, subversively manipulate information to receptive audiences, prodding them to believe that the only way to insure their best interests, is to surrender themselves to the trusted authority. Thus, they tighten the prick against the hide, until the audience is painfully blinded from any path other than where they are directed to go. Their needs unmet by design, their fear and frustration makes them rage, not against the prick, but against the enemy and its stupid followers, designated by their trusted authority. They rage, unaware of where information warfare begins, ends, and how strong or destructive it is.

Six corporations own ninety percent of the media in the United States. Empty suit pundits and newscasters spoon feed the public a steady diet of corporate pablum, fear porn and agitprop in a never-ending news cycle. In a relentless barrage of social engineering agendas designed to keep the masses divided, they continually blur the lines of reality. The fourth estate has essentially become a fifth column in that it is the mouthpiece of the corporatocracy and directs public opinion in the best interest of the corporations rather than the nation. It’s the age old tactic of divide and conquer and this is the most divided our country has been since the 1960’s. In an Information War, the first casualty is always truth.
